Check out these dtac employees sharing how teaching their moms a few digital skills brought them newfound joy

dtac employees share how teaching their moms a few digital skills brought them newfound joy. With restrictions on regional travel and the risk of spreading Covid-19, mobile connectivity is fast becoming the only way to reach loved ones. This Mother’s Day, families that would have once gathered for the special occasion may once again have to rely on a video call. However, younger generations aren’t the only ones who can enjoy a world of digital services beyond just making calls. dtacblog spoke to dtac employees who recently taught their senior moms new tricks to get more out of their smartphones. While it is critical to Thailand’s recovery and business operations, connectivity also enables people of all ages to access essential services like banking and online learning and empower them to live the life they truly want. And with dtac’s fast-growing 4G/5G network, it’s never been easier for our parents to get a reliable connection—no matter where they live. Pen Junmanee lives with her mother-in-law who adores music from her youth. The family bought her a smartphone and introduced her to Youtube. “My mother-in-law just turned 80 years old this year. She has been using an old phone with buttons, so we…

The Top Business Competition That’s as Tough as a Triathlon

A triathlon combines long-distance running, cycling, and swimming. To complete these grueling races, athletes must possess physical prowess, but also mental resilience and a fighter’s spirit. Doing business in the COVID-19 era can feel just as tough, especially with the pandemic significantly accelerating digital transformation. And only entrepreneurs with the resilience of a triathlete will be able to stay in the race. The Business Triathlon (Biz Tri) is therefore aptly named. It simulates a competitive business environment based on real-life corporate challenges for university students in Thailand. Contestants must demonstrate deep insight, strategic marketing capabilities and a capacity for digital innovation. And over 42 days, they must formulate a strategy for a digital business that will impress the judges. The Sasin School of Management (of the Chulalongkorn University) pioneered this competition in Thailand, with dtac, Lotus, and Tyson Foods as sponsors for the third edition. Digital Racers “dtac’s big strength is that it has over 19 million customers. Our challenge to contestants is to find how can dtac leverage the relationship with its individual customers to capture emerging customers’ needs. This can solve customer pain points and allow dtac to grow its revenue from new services beyond core connectivity, such as voice…

dtac and BBtec’s joint goal to lift health and safety standards

The COVID-19 outbreak has put unprecedented pressure on global supply chains while also increasing the need for mobile connectivity. For dtac, the challenge is thus to guarantee the health and safety of its network operations teams while accelerating its network rollout. At the end of Q2’21, approximately 9,100 nodes of 700 MHz were installed, and dtac will continue to expand 5G capability to more sites in high-traffic areas. An operation of this size requires vendors and partners, which all need to agree to dtac’s strict safety measures and human rights standards for all workers in its supply chain. One of them is BB Technology Company Limited (BBtec), an integrated telecom operator in the Benchachinda Group, who has been providing cell site installation and maintenance services for dtac for more than ten years. The firm’s services include consulting, survey, design, system analysis and development, base-station construction, installations of fiber optic, exchange network infrastructure, system installations, supervision and network-system maintenance. “Signal tower construction and network-systems installations are complicated. Think of it as building a house, with several contractors for the foundation, roof, electrical systems, water system, and so on. If just one of these contractors isn’t up to standard, the whole project…

dtac’s 5G journey to deliver high-speed internet for all

dtac pioneered industry use cases on 26GHz 5G, developing solutions for smart farming, logistics, energy management and many more. Since it acquired a license for the 700 MHz band on 24 December 2020, dtac has also been ramping up the rollout of its low-band network to bring high-speed internet to customers across Thailand. As the mobile operator continues to expand its network to boost its customers’ mobile experience and introduces 5G services in major cities, we spoke to the people behind the scenes to learn more about dtac’s strategy to deliver high-speed internet for all and the commercial launch of dtac 5G.. The Coverage Layer “Low-band spectrum covers a wide area. It is perfect to bring additional coverage to rural and indoor areas. Taking into account the benefits of 700 MHz, dtac decided to use this spectrum to expand its 4G services across the country and develop 5G services in high-traffic areas,” Dr. Ukrit Salyapongs, Head of Commercial Strategy, Planning and Insights, dtac, said. dtac also designs its 5G network expansion strategy based on predictive analytics, which look into customers’ behaviors and past trends including smartphone replacement cycle, user demographics, and usage location. The mobile operator forecasts that in Thailand…

dtac LGBTQ employees say diversity makes teams stronger

Even though we see advancing LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bi, trans and queer) rights and support over the past five decades, many challenges remain. A study by the World Bank reveals that despite Thailand’s progressive status regarding LGBTQ inclusion when compared with other middle-income countries, discrimination against LGBTQ people persists, especially in equal access to job opportunities, home ownership, and other various basic services. dtac recently announced a set of policies and equal benefits for its LGBTQ employees, including marriage allowance and medical leave for gender reassignment surgery, to foster diversity and inclusion across the organization. On this occasion, dtacblog spoke to some of our LGBTQ members to share their views on diversity and inclusion at work. Embracing Who You Are “If there are three candidates – a straight man, a straight woman, and a transwoman, most employers would go for the first two choices,” Prasert Senchatturat said. Nine years ago, Prasert landed her first job in finance and now works as an accountant at dtac. But the journey wasn’t always easy for her. During her first years in the workforce, she found embracing her true self at work a challenging journey. “In one of my very first job interviews, a…

Why mobile operators are critical to Thailand’s fight against COVID-19

The mobile industry has been critical to controlling the COVID-19 outbreak in Thailand. Internet service providers provided uninterrupted services amid the surge in data usage. But dtac did more than ensuring society could continue to operate productively and safely. From tripling its data capacity to equipping field hospitals with connectivity solutions, dtac supported the fight against COVID-19 on multiple fronts.dtacblog spoke to Lertratana Ratananukul, the head of government relations at dtac, to better understand how mobile operators have been supporting the nation’s efforts to contain COVID-19. A CRITICAL SERVICE “In a lockdown situation, mobile usage becomes a survival tool. This is why our network operations teams were given special permission to cross regional borders and work at night during the lockdown,” said Mr. Lertratana. “Shortly after, dtac reopened its shops, which are deemed an essential service for Thai society’s ability to continue functioning with social distancing.”As the first wave of COVID-19 hit the kingdom, in April 2020, mobile operators were also faced with adapting their network to an unprecedented human migration from cities to rural and residential areas. To keep up with new traffic hotspots, dtac’s network teams rolled out thousands of massive MIMO sites, tripling the data capacity for…

Meet the LGBTQ ally and diversity champion helming dtac’s human resources

During Pride Month, dtac made history as a large enterprise in the SET50 extending its spousal benefits to same-sex couples. dtac also categorized gender reassignment surgery as medical leave and now offers parental leave for parents who adopt infants. The new policies reflect dtac’s responsible business foundation that brings together compliance, data privacy, supply chain sustainability, digital upskilling, climate change, human rights and the health and safety of our workers. dtacblog spoke to Nardrerdee Arj-harnwongse, Chief People Officer of dtac, to understand what motivated her to the launch these new policies. Bringing Your Whole Self to Work “Diversity and inclusion have always been at the core of dtac’s culture,” she said. “A few years ago, a same-sex couple asked if they were entitled to dtac’s wedding leave and allowance—and we said yes! But there was no specific mention of same-sex couples in our policies. We’ve now corrected that to send a strong message to our LGBTQ employees. We see you, we value you, and we want you to feel at home here.” As dtac’s Chief People Officer, Ms. Nardrerdee must keep thousands of positions staffed with happy, productive employees. Overall, dtac’s male-female divide leans towards the latter (68 percent) and the…

dtac says the time for strong data privacy in Thailand is now

The year 2020 triggered a seismic shift in our relationship with the online world. With COVID-19, more people are working from home and connecting online with loved ones they can no longer meet in person. But just as reliance on connectivity grows, so do concerns about data privacy. “As more businesses and people moved into the digital world, we’ve seen a change in how they viewed the online environment,” said Marcus Adaktusson, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at dtac. “They are increasingly concerned about their privacy.” In Cisco’s 2020 Consumer Privacy Survey, 60 percent of respondents expressed concerns about their data being protected in the tools they are using while remote working or learning. The top three concerns were that the data will be used for unrelated purposes, that the data will be shared too broadly with third parties, and that the data will not be deleted or anonymized. Furthermore, 29 percent of those surveyed said they would switch brands due to data practices. This growing demographic of ‘privacy actives’ signals a shift in consumer attitudes globally about how their data is used and what control they have over their privacy. “Privacy issues are a growing concern for customers. But it’s often…

How businesses can continue operations despite Covid-19

The COVID-19 crisis exposed major vulnerabilities in global operations and supply chains. But dtac was able to quickly localize production and implement a wide-reaching work from home policy. Tipayarat Kaewsringam, chief sales officer at dtac, spoke at the dtac Responsible Business Virtual Forum 2021, to explain how dtac achieved such resilience in its supply chain. “Digital connectivity is critical to continuing social and economic activity under lockdown restrictions and work-from-home policies. Thus dtac must provide uninterrupted services, but also ensure the safety of its employees and those who operate on behalf of the company,” she said. Resilient Operations Today, around 95 percent of dtac office employees and call center agents are able to work from home. Working from home allows them to operate during lockdowns but also reduces the risk of infections which could cause teams to be quarantined. “Even in shops, which must continue to operate as mobile operators are considered an essential service, teams are split in half and work alternate weeks. If one team is exposed and must quarantine, the other team can continue to operate,” said Ms. Tipayarat. Moreover, the Network Operation Center, located at the dtac Headquarters, is ready to relocate at alternate sites. In…

Co-Creation, the Next Frontier in Digital Transformation

17 May 2021 - The COVID-19 crisis has not only highlighted the critical role of information and communication technologies (ICT) for resilient societies but has also brought to the fore the digital inequalities between and within countries. At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the urgency of accelerating digital transformation and advancing the goals and targets of the Connect 2030 Agenda to leave no one behind. On the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD), Dr. Reduan Hasan Khan, Head of B2B Products & Solutions at dtac, talks about the private sector's role in accelerating digital transformation. The Bangladesh-born engineer and Telenor veteran joined dtac in 2020 and now leads its Innovation Hub focusing on emerging technologies like Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud and 5G. It Starts at Home “We’ve seen that the pandemic has accelerated digital transformation for all businesses, even smaller ones – much of it due to work from home. On the one hand, they had to manage the digitalization of their workforce. On the other hand, they had to transform their customer-facing sales and support processes in a more digital-centric way. These same sets of challenges were also faced by dtac as…
